Learning, living, and loving the gourd life!
Welcome to the Gourdgal studios, where whimsy and inventiveness meet gourds and paper. As a youngster, [many, MANY years ago!], Gourdgal Angela Mohr became enamored with the bulbous scoops and bowls and jars seen on the mid-1960s sitcom Giligan's Island and the 1960 Disney movie Swiss Family Robinson. How wonderful that in those shows, in deserted areas, the survivors could be innovative with local plants to make whatever they needed or wanted! The bowling alley Skipper and Gilligan played on, made with bottle-neck gourds and bamboo, fascinated me. The book by Johann David Wyss, Swiss Family Robinson, describes many instances where the family finds, and figures out how to use, gourds. As a nerdy, blossoming researcher, Gourdgal was hooked!
